This dedicated operation will coordinate all the municipal teams involved in the festivities. Particular attention is being given to the areas that are expected to see the most visitors during the celebration, such as the city’s beaches, which will remain open throughout the night.

A safe night

The Guardia Urbana will step up their presence all over the city to prevent incidents that could affect public safety, mobility, peaceful coexistence or the well-being of local residents. There will be increased checks for alcohol and drug use, as well as for unauthorised bonfires, especially in the Parque de Collserola area.

The Civil Protection, Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue Service (SPEIS) will increase its available resources and operate across the entire territory, including in the city’s forested areas. Remember that setting off fireworks near forests and parks is prohibited, and that no activity involving fire is allowed within 500 metres of these areas.

The night of fire

In the days leading up to the revetlla, Barcelona’s security and prevention services carry out inspections, checks and authorisations for the 123 designated firecracker sales points and their physical setups, ensuring they comply with all relevant safety measures. They also set the minimum safety requirements for building bonfires in the streets.

In Barcelona, four large bonfires have been approved: in Plaça de Can Fabra (Sant Andreu), at the junction of Carrer de Floridablanca and Carrer d’Entença (L’Eixample), at the junction of Carrer de la Corunya and Avinguda Meridiana (Sant Martí) and at the junction of Carrer de Lope de Vega and Carrer del Concili de Trento (Sant Martí).

There will be detours in place throughout the night in areas with authorised bonfires or revetllas.

Reinforcement of night-time Punts Liles

The Sant Joan night-time operation has been designed from a gender perspective, with a focus on preventing, detecting, supporting and referring cases of gender-based and anti-LGBTI violence in public spaces.

Two night-time Punts Liles are already in operation from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am along the seafront: one at Somorrostro Beach and another on the Bogatell Beach promenade. The daytime beach punt lila at the Bogatell breakwater is also open. The Guardia Urbana will increase the number of safe routes to help prevent sexual violence in public spaces.

Beach operations

The city’s beaches will be open all night. Due to the expected large crowds, access to the Barceloneta neighbourhood will be restricted. Unauthorised parking of caravans, motorhomes, vans and other vehicles that could be used for camping, overnight stays or storing drinks will be prohibited along the seafront.

Beach bars will be allowed to stay open for food service until 3:30 am, one hour later than usual. Efforts will be made to prevent unauthorised parties and the use of sound equipment, and controls will be put in place to restrict collective consumption of alcohol on public roads. Additionally, lighting fires or bonfires on the beaches will be prohibited.

A clean public space

Nearly 300 portable toilets and around 800 bins and skips will be set up across the beach areas, in addition to those already available during the high season. From 6:30 am, the Guardia Urbana, together with the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Port Police, will begin clearing and restoring order in these spaces.

The special cleaning operation will begin afterwards, working in coordination with the police. It is expected to be completed between 9:00 and 10:00 am, just in time for the beaches to open to swimmers. Increased cleaning and waste collection efforts will also extend across the rest of the city, supplementing the usual resources for a public holiday. More than 1,000 workers and almost 550 vehicles will be involved in total.

Uninterrupted public transport

On the night of Monday, 23 June, special public transport services will be in place to make getting around easier. The metro will run non-stop and will increase the number of trains for the revetlla, especially on line 4, where higher passenger numbers are expected. The Tram will also run non-stop all night.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) will run their usual service for a weekday before a public holiday until 2:00 am, and Cercanías de Cataluña will keep trains running at intervals of 30 minutes or less. The Nitbús will also increase the frequency of its routes.
